OUR STORY
Since 2002, the story of Terwillegar Community Church can be told with the refrain, “Only God”. Journeying from being a few faithful individuals in a living room, to becoming a few hundred worshipping in the heart of Terwillegar Towne, each step in the journey has been miraculous in its own way. Only God! Take a minute to read the timeline below, which is a testimony of what God has done in the life of Terwillegar Community Church!
Adam Buyer is affirmed as a Lead Pastor on September 24, 2024 (to serve with Norb Janke in a co-lead pastor relationship) effectively pursuing this role starting October 1, 2024.
TCC moves to two services (9:00am and 11:00am) on September 1, 2024 to be able to better meet the needs of our growing congregation. This is a short-term plan to a long-term initiative for church multiplication.
TCC’s staff continues to grow significantly with the adding of a full time Operations and Connections Pastor and a full time Worship and Online Ministries Pastor.
TCC navigates through worldwide pandemic adapting to limitations and moving most ministries online. March 15th, 2020 was TCC’s first live-streamed service.
Norb Janke is affirmed as the new Lead Pastor of TCC.
Transition in Leadership Pastor Ken MacDonald resigns as the Senior Pastor of TCC to pursue a fuller focus as the Senior Pastor of Southwest Community Church.
TCC’s staff grows significantly with the adding of a full time Associate Pastor, full time Youth Pastor, and a part-time Community Life Director.
Launch of Southwest Community Church. Southwest Community Church is planted and holding its first service at Dr. Margaret-Ann Armour School.
Church Planting TCC voted on and approved a Church Planting Budget. November of 2016 the church plant was given a name: Southwest Community Church.
First Prayer Summit TCC moves to deepen its prayer culture by hosting its first Prayer Summit. This was an opportunity for the church community to gather and share with one another, pray for one another, and worship.
Refugee Care Sponsorship of refugee family from Syria is approved. In March of 2016, TCC sponsored Syrian refugees who moved to Edmonton.
Planning for the future: Discussions around how to handle growth as building and parking space were becoming an issue. TCC wrestled through moving to two services or not. At this time the Pastors and Elders began dreaming about church planting.
Missions Trip to El Salvador:
This trip was led by Pastor Norb in partnership with Greenfield, Zion, and Hillview.
Moved into the new building: Over 450 people were in attendance. In October, we officially dedicated the new building to the Lord! This was a milestone in our history as a young congregation. At the same time, TCC opened the doors of Terwillegar Community Preschool.
Construction of the new facility begins: Official commencement of construction for our new facility. The architect, construction company, and TCC’s Facility Development are in full swing! Hours and hours of detailed planning result in the step by step construction of a beautiful new facility.
Successful Capital Funds Campaign that spurred enthusiasm toward the construction of a new facility.
Purchase of Land: TCC celebrated the opportunity to purchase 1.8 acres of land right in the heart of Terwillegar Towne. Congregation gave 100% affirmation for the decision to purchase the land.
First Worship Service at Taylor Campus: Due to the limitations of meeting at the Chinese Anglican Church, TCC transition to the Taylor Campus for their Sunday worship service.
Full time Associate Pastor joins Staff: Pastor Norb Janke commences his ministry at TCC.
Morning Service Begins: TCC moved from a 4:30pm Worship Service to a 9:30am Worship Service at Holy Trinity followed by a hot brunch.
First Friday at the Park Event Celebration times with the community during the summer months – hot dogs, watermelon, Jumpy Thing, playground. Creating another opportunity for the community to get together.
First Spring Carnival Community Event: TCC invited the Terwillegar Community to a great family experience and opportunity for the community to celebrate spring with a Petting Zoo, live theatre, crafts, Jumpy Thing, carnival games, popcorn, candy floss, and of course, lots of fun. We continue to welcome hundreds of people from our community to this event each spring.
Launch Sunday: Terwillegar Community Church officially launched by holding its first service. We met at Holy Trinity Chinese Anglican Church at 4:30pm.
Initial Planning and Prayer: Pastor Ken and Marg MacDonald officially began their ministry with Terwillegar Community Church. Visionary individuals excited about a challenging opportunity met together for the following 5 months in preparation for launching Terwillegar Community Church.
